As the old saying goes, ‘when in Rome, document a wedding’. This was my first wedding in Rome and I have to say I had a ball. Set in the rustic charm of Borgo Di Tragliata, Alan and Peter did all the important things very well. They also did some of the less important things very well. I mean, they had gin and naked flames – always a great combination.
Although I’d done a few same-sex weddings before, this was my first with two grooms. I needn’t have worried at the dearth of ladies to photograph as the guys had teed-up six bridesmaids. And six groomsmen – just to be sure.
Festivities were started the night before the wedding with welcome drinks and BBQ – there was quite a sense of giddiness and excitement.
On the morning of, I joined the bridal party for their prep – some spirits and some makeup. Pre-ceremony Alan cooled-off with the use of a pedestal fan (#lifehack). Both the Mammies led their sons into what proved to be a rather emotional ceremony.
During the receiving line ice cream was served to guests and photographers masquerading as guests. The lads made their enterence to the drinks reception in a slick red vintage fiat. Reception festivities were rounded off with some Chinese lanterns – these are always great for photos. It also separates the dexterous guests from the less so – sorta like The Great British Bakeoff with more fire.
The night was rounded-off with a shindig in the barn – some gin fueled dance moves. There was the obligatory Dad-with-tie-around-head shot. Well, there are some things that we Irish can teach the Romans…
